THE EVENT
A weekend of English Country Dance to suit all tastes (#20 in the series). The series is
organised and led by John & Hilary Turner.
On this occasion the calling was shared between John and our 'Guest' Caller
Hilary Herbert with music provided by Dave Yeomans & Victoria Close of Deo Volente.
The weekend commenced with dinner on the evening of Friday 16th November 2007 and concluded with a farewell dance on the afternoon of Sunday 18th November. There was a mixture of dances & workshops, and some free time to explore Morecambe, Lancaster & the beautiful environs.
GUEST CALLER - Hilary Herbert
Hilary has been dancing & calling for many years and enjoys a variety of dances:
old & new; easy, moderate, or complicated; Playford, English or American style.
She also writes a few of her own!
Hilary likes calling for festivals, days of dance, workshops, evening dances & Playford Balls,
but particularly enjoys weekends with the opportunity to get to know people better.
GUEST MUSICIANS - Deo Volente.
Deo Volente is an accordion & flute duo based in Nottingham. Dave Yeomans and Victoria Close are experienced folk musicians who have been playing (separately) for many years in a variety of settings including "Dave & Caroline" and "Woodfidley". Now they bring that experience together to play lively, enjoyable music with the emphasis firmly on making you dance, whether it is Playford or Contras!
THE VENUE
THE ELMS HOTEL, an AA / RAC 3 star hotel nestles in the village of Bare, amidst
the panoramic background of Morecambe Bay. The restaurant has an excellent reputation for fine
cuisine with both locals and visitors. All bedrooms are ensuite, and are available in Double,
Twin / Shared and Single rooms.
The hotel dates back to the 1890's and offers a touch of Victorian elegance combined with
luxurious decor and the latest modern comforts. Access by Public Transport is very easy.
There is a frequent bus service from Lancaster & Morecambe stopping almost outside the door
and Bare Lane Railway Station is
less than 300 yds away, with regular links to the rail network at Lancaster. See attached
